sewing tutorials watch and learn grasshopper blog

Congratulations! I haven’t seen many blogs that provide such thorough tutorials! Keep up the good work Sensei! By the way, when are you planning to sew and tell about a Chanel jacket?

_____

Thanks for your comment :)

Let me clarify one thing first: I’m not a Sensei of anyone :) The “grasshopper” in the “Watch and Learn Grasshopper” page is actually myself who is a self-taught and very enthusiastic seamstress :)

I also think that I should sew a Chanel jacket these days, but I have couple of other sewing projects in mind before that. I guess I can include it on the to-do list for next month. In the meantime, please do watch the making of a Chanel jacket video I shared couple of weeks ago:

Watch and Learn Grasshopper - How to make piping outfits

I woke up this morning thinking that it is a fine day to write about how to make piping at home!

So, what t is a piped bias one may ask… Hmm,  think about the boring pillow and cushion covers… Not a very inspiring example isn’t it? :P

Well, let me tell you, by using the right combinations it becomes a very cool sewing technique that turns an ordinary pattern into a chic outfit. And the good part is… it’s quite easy to do!

Some examples of piped bias / piping dresses:

Sewing Your Style

I’ve been getting queries about how-to steps for sewing skirts. I recently posted a question about which / what type of skirt pattern you’d like to see as a sew-along. But I got a lot of different replies. So I decided to select a very basic skirt pattern to show the sewing steps in this post and surprise you with showing how you can use it for creating various chic skirts later on.

Follow this post for learning to sew a basic skirt and keep an eye on the upcoming posts :)

Watch and Learn Grasshopper - How to Make an Easy, Flat Fly-Front Zipper

Hello Everyone!

When I started sewing for the first time, one of the biggest challenges for me was to insert zippers in a clean way.

Then I found this great tutorial provided by the Threads Magazine. I wish I could buy that mag in Turkey. Unfortunately the only sewing magazine around here is Burda

I wanted to give you the instructions with step-by-step photos but then I realized that wonderful Sandra Betzina may have been slightly more experienced than me and could explain it better. See for yourself and the next time you’ll try it this way, I’m sure you’ll thank me. So, watch and learn grasshopper… :)

What do I do? I try to get the best out of life...How did it all start? One day I decided that it is time for me to stop paying for clothes so much and make them myself. But the problem was, I had never sewn before in my life! So, I started following my inner voice... and youtube records... Since then, I sew whenever I can and defy the zillion dollar fashion industry in my own way :))
