Lace skirt - I did it, I did it :)

I was adoring the lace skirts and dresses so much for so long! Finally I managed to sew one for myself. I could have sewed a loose fitting gauze and a chic and colorful facing inside (which is definitely on my to do list!) but I couldn’t find a good quality gauze fabric in the color of my liking yet. So I took the harder path and made a skirt with cotton lace bands…

I never thought that I would be so passionate about lace ‘cause I always thought of it as an outdated, old fashioned material. But starting from last year, the fashion world literally re-fashioned it! 

Well…. I still don’t think I can wear it head to toe… Maybe I should start with “mini” steps :)

In sewing a lace skirt / dress, the only trick is to find a nice and lightweight lace to work with. Cotton laces are the best choice for this. But if you’d like to do even an easier project, find good quality gauze fabric and combine it with a chic lining. But beware of the cheap looking polyester ones, ‘cause you may end up looking like you’re wearing a curtain :)

I think for the spring / summer season, the best way of using lace is to combine it with a contrast lining and reinforce the lace patterns/prints. 

All I did in this project was to sew a mini skirt using a simple skirt pattern and “dress it up” with a lightweight cotton lace band. 

Although my backyard is still covered with snow, it feels like heaven to try out lighter color dresses. I will definitely keep sewing more lace dresses in the coming weeks!
