My first trench coat dress - M6279

image

This pattern was one one my recent purchases in the last sale from McCall’s patterns. It was on my to do list for so long. The pattern is amazing. According to the fabric you use, you can sew it for any season. I think if I cut it a little bigger next time, I can even use it as a real trench coat.

This was my first attempt in sewing a trench coat, thus I had no idea how much fabric is needed for such a pattern.

Instead of buying fabric according to the pattern, as almost all normal people would do, I tend to lose myself in the fabric store and buy whatever I fall in love with at that second and then try to figure out which pattern would be better for that later on. So, after I cutthis pattern, I had no idea about what to do with the existing fabric choices.

My Suffering Owl

One of the utmost important missions in life, without a doubt, is to learn how to make an owl from fabric!

This serious looking funny animal happens to be one of my favorite characters in life. Thus, I couldn’t think of anyone else to give me a hand in holding my pins when I’m sewing. So I decided to draft and sew my own pin cushion with an owl shape. I liked the outcome so much that I used the same pattern in couple of my son’s clothes.

Let me introduce you to my ever-suffering but always loyal owl:

Watch and Learn Grasshopper - How to Make an Easy, Flat Fly-Front Zipper

image

Hello Everyone!

When I started sewing for the first time, one of the biggest challenges for me was to insert zippers in a clean way.

Then I found this great tutorial provided by the Threads Magazine. I wish I could buy that mag in Turkey. Unfortunately the only sewing magazine around here is Burda.

I wanted to give you the instructions with step-by-step photos but then I realized that wonderful Sandra Betzina may have been slightly more experienced than me and could explain it better. See for yourself and the next time you’ll try it this way, I’m sure you’ll thank me. So, watch and learn grasshopper… :)

Roland Mouret “Galaxy Dress” - I finally made it!

image

Let me share with you the dress that is in the top of my “list of honour” since the day I started sewing. It’s the famous “Galaxy Dress” by the famous French designer Roland Mouret.

Well…even at least this post should convince you to sew your own clothes!…

New Color to the Retro pattern

I’ve always been fascinated by the 1960s fashion. Although the “poodle skirts” with fitted tops in 50s do look fantastic, I can’t imagine myself going to work or a grocery store with my tutus :)

The First Hello!

image

Have you ever wanted to wear the wonderfully crafted designer clothes that you’ve seen on TV or in a magazine and lamented for the fact that the possibility of buying that item with your current salary is as high as going on a moon in your lifetime?

Have you ever  heard the sales person saying “Unfortunately our cuts are much slimmer…” and just smiled back and left the store with full grace while recalling scenes from “Alien vs. Predator” movie within 3 seconds?

Well, I have! :) So one day I woke up and said to my self “what will I lose” and decided to learn how to sew! I went to the market and bought a sewing magazine; ran to the fabric store and bought the cheapest fabric I liked and started sewing. I learnt new stuff each day from the internet and I keep learning. Since then, I keep sewing great clothes for my taste :)) If you have the same passion, follow my blog!
